When a transaction fails on the network, your crypto doesn't move, but the network still keeps the gas fee, because it did the work of processing the transaction. Find out why it failed, fix the cause, then try again.

FxWallet can't refund the fee of a failed transaction: it goes to the network, not to FxWallet.

## If it was never sent

If FxWallet shows one of these messages, it couldn't send the transaction to the network. Nothing moved and no fee was paid, so you can try again.

- **Transaction Broadcast Failed**
- **Transaction failed to send. Please try again.**

## Why transactions fail

- **It ran out of gas.** The transaction needed more gas than was set aside for it ("out of gas"). Try again, and keep enough of the network's native coin, such as ETH on Ethereum, or pay with a Gas Card. See [Gas fees and Gas Card](https://docs.fxwallet.com/wallet/gas-fees).
- **A contract rejected it ("reverted").** The smart contract behind a token, a swap or a DApp refused the transaction, for example because the price moved more than your slippage allows. For swaps, see [Why did my swap fail?](https://docs.fxwallet.com/swap/why-did-my-swap-fail)

To see the exact reason, look up the transaction hash (TXID) in a block explorer for the network. It usually shows the error.

## Check your balance

After a failed transaction, the crypto you tried to send is still in your wallet: only the fee is spent. If your balance looks wrong, see [Why is my balance not showing?](https://docs.fxwallet.com/wallet/why-is-my-balance-not-showing)
